My New Squirrel Applique Pattern, Darling Sigmund

Well, I've been trying for a year to make a squirrel. You can see I have my first one!

I have a few reptiles waiting in the wings, and some failed mice and larger cats. But the squirrel, yes, Sigmund the Squirrel is finished!! I may rename him Siegfried, haven't decided yet. But he's a snap to make.

I really enjoy little animal appliques, they're able to be sewn on anything you can imagine, and you can usually crochet one in just a few minutes. If you want to see my Sigmund pattern, you can click here, and all of my current patterns are at susanlinnstudio, my etsy store.

Give me more animal ideas! An iguana is next, almost perfected...but still a tad problematic. You know iguanas. Ha!

Ta ta, and have a lovely day of crochet!

Free Ruffled Flower Baby Crochet Pattern and My Darling Hat Obsession!

I have to share this one, it turns out so beautifully with that "I love This Yarn" baby weight (light weight) yarn and a smallish hook (I like G, but you can use all the way up to K). If you want the free pattern click here, and you can check out the entire single crochet baby beanie at this etsy listing. It used to be my "ethnic baby hat" pattern, but I worked up a nice way to do this pattern with a decorative long stitch, just using a solid color...and added this lush little flower which tops it off nicely, so I renamed the pattern. More options, basically! You can see all of the things this pattern covers below, and show me your latest!

It's a blast gearing up for fall and winter, and those tiny noggins are the first thing that comes to mind. THEN fall leaves, flowers, snowflakes, all of it. Crochet on the brain is a very scary thing, and people don't necessarily like seeing you with a hook in your hand all the time, but we crochet nuts understand, don't we?

May it be a winter of delight, good health and satisfying work for you and your hook. Blessings, Susan

Wow, wish I could crochet a cozy for my Car

This is awesome,

almost as good as a tree cozy...
That's what I like about crochet, it's both humble and cheerful. You can't crochet something and take yourself too seriously. Well, I know better than to say that, you can find some really wierd crochet out there.

But it is very therapeautic making something silly, colorful, and humbly made from yarn. I hope you know what I'm talking about.

I'm so tired of painting this summer. I've been crocheting and designing for days on end; I suppose I need to get my painting chops back some time, but it can wait till next week. When I go take a hike and shoot some photos, I'll feel differently, but until then, I'll keep the hook in my hand.

If you'd like a couple of free fun crochet patterns, like my bowl, a pom pom, or a fun flower, shoot me a note. I hope to have a steady stream of small free crochet smiles here, but it will have to come slowly, like everything.

May God bless your nimble hands and give you a weekend of love and joy. Susan

New Dove Pattern, Easy and Beautiful!

Click here to see my new dove applique pattern on etsy, it's my latest! I've been making them obsessively, and have an angel pattern which is similar for the body and wings, but different elsewhere.

The tiniest patterns are the ones I love the most, there's no big time commitment, and you can make them for gift tie-ons, party favors, christmas ornaments, or appliques for purses, scarves and sweaters. Truly delicious and fun, not more than 10 minutes to make.

If you'd like to see all of my animal applique patterns, you can check out my etsy store, or check out my art website to see more about me, my art and my crochet.

Here's hoping you have a wonderful fall and winter of crochet, and check back lots!

Here are my various patterns on Amazon's Kindle Store, including this new one....when you see my patterns as Kindle documents, they're smaller in format and they're unable to be printed out, so I sell them more cheaply than the larger printable versions on my Etsy Crochet pattern store .

Free Pom Pom pattern....a good day for yarn!

I've been sitting on this one for a whitle, I found a great baby weight yarn which actually comes in lots of non-baby pastels, I can't believe it!! It's Hobby Lobby's own brand "I Love This Yarn" and it's acrylic. Looks like baby yarn in every way, but comes in lots of cool browns, blues, interesting multis, ahhhh! Which to me means interesting color combos for a baby hat that looks, I don't know, South American or something?? Help me out here...I do like the stripes and that notchy long stitch that makes it look like a knit cap. A small hook and light yarn helps in that regard, too. Anyway, here's the etsy item, and click hereto get the instructions on making a simple baby pom pom. One suggestion: trim your pom pom over a box or a bag, it helps! Ha!
Have a super day and thanks for looking!

Chunky Yarn so Yummy you could Gobble it!

I finished a new pattern today! I have at least 9 or 10 more that are ready to write up, but I'm tweaking, dilly-dallying, what's my problem?
This one's awesome, it's so soft and yummy when done in that "Baby Bee" Hushabye Ombre yarn, in the color "Softly", half cotton and half acrylic. Who names a color "Softly?" And why?

I don't know why, I just love the cap and also the flower done in the same pastel multi. I think the colors are just a bit more muted than most brands...or maybe it's actually the texture I just love. Whatever, it is, you can see what's been obsessing me.
Here's the patternon etsy, and I'm working on some flower patterns to give away on this blog.

My monster, please indulge me... So curly, so pink!!!!

Oh, wow, I set the bees and flowers aside to finish this pattern first. It was such a happy project (not that the bees and flowers weren't) I couldn't resist. And when stuffed, these little guys are so shlumpy and poseable, I LOVE them!! Shannon posed them with little horns so they looked like little devils. Only with innocent eyes. Ha!! If you want to see the pattern on etsy, you can look here. Thanks for looking. Now I'm back to bees!!
